Caleb Wallace, the anti-mask leader who led protests against the use of masks and confinement measures in the United States, died of COVID-19 on Saturday, August 28, after being hospitalized for almost a month.

Caleb Wallace was so persistent in his opposition to public policies to face the pandemic that he refused to take a test when he began to feel ill on July 26. At first, he also opposed going to the hospital, his wife announced in an interview with the New York Times. “He did not want to see a doctor, because he did not want to be part of the COVID-19 test statistics,” said his wife, according to the Daily News.

In addition, he refused to use any recommended medicine in cases of COVID-19 and, instead, decided to take vitamin C, zinc lozenges and ivermectin, an antiparasitic used in animals that was recently contraindicated by the World Health Organization (WHO ) for its harmful effects on humans. 

Wallace’s health condition rapidly deteriorated and he was admitted to hospital on July 30, where he was diagnosed as suffering from a COVID-19 infection, according to the San Angelo Standard-Times story. 

He remained unconscious from August 8, until he lost his life last Saturday. A day before the news of his death was released, his wife, who was trying to raise funds to meet medical costs, published: “To those who wish death, I regret that their views and opinions caused them some hurt. 

I have prayed that he came out of this with a new vision and a greater appreciation for life. I can’t say more because I can’t talk to him ”. According to the latest count by the AFP agency, 4,500,620 people have died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in the world. 

Currently, there are 10,000 people who die daily from this cause and the United States once again tops the list of countries with the highest average death in the last 7 days, with 1,290 deaths.
