BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Maxine McNair, the closing living father or mother of any of the 4 Black women killed in a 1963 Alabama church bombing, died Sunday. She was 93.
McNair's family unit introduced her dying in a press release. A reason for dying turned into now not given.
McNair's daughter, 11-year-historical Denise McNair, turned into the youngest woman killed within the bombing of Birmingham's sixteenth street Baptist Church, the deadliest single attack of the civil rights move. additionally killed were three 14-12 months-olds: Addie Mae Collins, Carole Rosamond Robertson and Cynthia Dionne Wesley.

Maxine McNair's husband, Chris McNair, died in 2019 on the age of 93. He become one of the most first Black individuals of the Alabama legislature seeing that Reconstruction, and a Jefferson County commissioner.
In 2013, Maxine McNair attended an Oval office ceremony wherein President Barack Obama awarded the four women the Congressional Gold Medal, some of the country's highest civilian honors.
Funeral preparations for a party of Maxine McNair's existence are pending.
