MASKWACIS, Alberta—Pope Francis visited the website of a former residential college for

indigenous Canadian toddlers on Monday morning and time and again apologized for Catholics' position in executive-sponsored "initiatives of cultural destruction and forced assimilation" that he referred to had devastated their communities.
